   Proposal Description:
   This study will elucidate how life course factors (defined by timing, human  agency, linked lives, and historical context) are associated with psychological  adjustment among individuals experiencing varied stages of dementia by  racial/ethnic identification. The specific aims of this study are to: 1)  identify latent variables that align with life course factors among individuals  experiencing early stage dementia and 2) explore subgroup analyses that  identify racial/ethnic-specific associations between life course factors and  psychological adjustment, with a focus on understanding factors that contribute  to severity of depression symptoms. The study is framed by the life course  perspective, which frames one's experience with dementia within the full  context of the life course and within historical and cultural context, as well  as ambiguous loss theory, which describes the complex loss of and individual  adjustment to living with a chronic illness within social context.
